Why Mental Health Can’t Wait

May sets, but the work is nigh.More than 720,000 lives are lost to suicide every year—720,000 people who needed understanding, support, and hope.

Suicide remains the third leading cause of death among individuals aged 15–29 years, a sobering reminder that mental health is not a luxury, but a necessity. Like physical health, it deserves our urgency, our attention, and our collective action.

This year’s Mental Health Awareness Month, themed ” More Good Days Together,” was marked by impactful initiatives aimed at promoting mental well-being among both the public and healthcare professionals.

Organizations such as SCOMH and mTv spearheaded activities including e.g Mind-Check and other awareness campaigns that encouraged open conversations about mental health and the importance of seeking help.

As the month comes to a close, the message remains unchanged: speak out, check in on one another, and seek help when you need it. A conversation, a listening ear, or a simple act of kindness can make a difference.

If you or someone you know is struggling, support is available through Befrienders Kenya(+254 722 178177) and other mental health support services.

More good days begin when we choose to walk together.
