Hantavirus Does NOT Cause Penile Atrophy

Social media discussions and online rumors have recently sparked claims that Hantavirus Infection can cause penile atrophy. However, current medical research does not support this claim.

Hantavirus is a serious rodent-borne viral infection that mainly affects the lungs and kidneys. People usually become infected after exposure to contaminated rodent urine, saliva, or droppings. Symptoms often include fever, fatigue, muscle pain, headaches, and in severe cases, breathing difficulties or kidney complications.

Meanwhile, Penile Atrophy refers to a reduction in penile tissue size or function and is commonly associated with:

  • Low testosterone levels
  • Poor blood circulation
  • Aging
  • Nerve damage
  • Chronic erectile dysfunction
  • Certain medical conditions or surgeries

Importantly, there is no proven scientific evidence showing that Hantavirus directly causes penile shrinkage or permanent penile damage.

Some severe illnesses can temporarily affect hormone levels, energy, libido or sexual performance during recovery. This may lead to short-term sexual health concerns but that is very different from actual penile atrophy.

The key message is clear: Hantavirus is a dangerous infection that should be taken seriously but claims linking it directly to penile atrophy are not backed by current scientific evidence.
